Rule No. Rule
1 RULES:~ The Eisteddfod is conducted according to the rules and conditions set down by the Cairns & District Junior Eisteddfod Committee. These rules are on the web under the rules section. These rules will be kept in a booklet form at the backstage check-in desk at each venue and at the eisteddfod secretary’s desk.                  AGE:~ The age limit for Cairns Eisteddfod is 4 Years to 18 Years inclusive
2 AMATEUR STATUS:~ The Eisteddfod is open to amateurs only. An amateur shall be defined as a person whos principal Source of income is not derived from the exercise of his or her talents in the particular class or classes for which he or she is entered. This condition does not apply to conductors or accompanists.
3 SECTIONS:~ The Committee reserves the right to combine or divide any sections. If sections are divided, competitors must perform in the division allocated.
4 SOLOS:~ Competitors can only enter in their respective age group – Solo competitors may only enter any section once. i.e.; a competitor may only appear on stage once for the duration of a section or category.
5 DUETS, DUOS, TRIO:~  One of the competitors may be under the age stated, but the competitor may not enter in BOTH the higher age Duo/Trio AND their own age duo/trio. E.g. two tap duos/trio, or two piano duets etc.
6 CHOIRS / CHORIC SPEAKING CHOIRS / BANDS / ENSEMBLES / DANCE TROUPES:~
  Individual members of the above are only allowed to compete in one School Entry and one Community Entry in the same section.~If a competitor performs in more than the allowed groups, both groups in which that competitor performs in will be disqualified.
7 COMPLETION OF ENTRY FORM and PAYMENT:~ For your convenience entries and full payment MUST be submitted online at http://www.cairnseisteddfod.com.au a confirmation email will be automatically returned on receipt of payment. If you do not receive an Automated Receipt, you have not completed the entry and confirmed payment therefore you are not entered into the Eisteddfod. (Please keep a copy for your records). Payment by Debit/Credit Card only. If you have having difficulties with online entry and payment, the Committee will be at the eisteddfod office on Saturday mornings from 10am to 2pm to assist with your online entry and payment from the 21st of February. Office is located at 69 – 71 Greenslopes Street, Edge Hill. NO CASH WILL BE TAKEN – Any issues, please contact the Treasurer on 0408 703 969. .
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE COMPLETED by 17th MARCH, else a late fee will apply.~
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COMPETITOR TO ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE ENTERED THE CORRECT SECTION AND AGE GROUP.
PLEASE CHECK ALL ENTRY DETAILS ON THE AUTOMATED RECEIPT.~
IF ANY DISCREPANCIES ARE FOUND, please email secretary@carinseisteddfod.com.au
(The office is manned on Saturdays and we get to the emails as soon as possible)
There will be absolutely no changes made once the program has gone to print.
Any Season Tickets paid for can be collected from the Eisteddfod office on Saturday Morning from March onwards.
Pre-paid Main Programmes can also be collected from Eisteddfod Office in early Jun
   
8 COPYRIGHT:~ It is the responsibility of each competitor to abide by the Copyright regulations.~Alternately: Licenced Copies are acceptable~Competitors are reminded of the Copyright Act 1999 granting exclusive rights of reproduction of the holders of the Copyright of the material concerned. The Cairns and District Junior Eisteddfod Association Incorporated shall accept no responsibility in the event that a breach of Copyright occurs~APRA form 1 must be completed and submitted with music on the day.~APRA form 2 must be completed and attached to photocopied material submitted on the day for use by the Adjudicator – this will not be returned to the competitors~An original copy must be used on stage ~Disqualification is possible if this is not adhered to.
9 OWN CHOICE:~  Own choice items must be brought in on the DAY OF COMPETITION.
A photocopy of your music is to be brought on the day of competition and be given to Backstage Manager half an hour prior to commencement of your section. This copy is for the Adjudicator
Photocopy should be BOUND OR STAPLED TOGETHER, NOT LOOSE PAGES
Attached to the FRONT of EACH piece – Your Name, Title of Own Choice and Section Entered
Attached to the BACK of EACH piece. APRA form 2 completed & signed.
These forms can be found in the Music and Speech and Drama preliminary programme
10 ACCOMPANISTS:~ Competitors must provide their own accompanist for all sections.
11 ORDER OF APPEARANCE ON STAGE:~ Order of appearance on stage will be in random order in each section, so please enter early to assist the committee in the preparation of the main programme.~The committee is unable to make special arrangements for any competitors to compete at a time other than that shown in the official programme
12 PROGRAMMING:~ The Committee reserves the right to cancel or combine any section where there are insufficient entries. The Committee reserves the right to divide sections that have large numbers of Competitors by random selection. The two groups will be adjudicated separately. ~If sections are divided, competitors must perform in the division allocated.~Competitors MUST appear in order of the programme on the day specified, unless so altered by the Committee. Whilst desiring to adhere to the programme as printed, the Committee reserves the right to alter the programme should it be considered necessary.
13 CONTACT WITH ADJUDICATORS:~ Parents, guardians, teachers and competitors MUST NOT have communicated either verbally or in writing or have had tuition from the adjudicator or at an adjudicators school during the 4 months PRIOR to or DURING the Eisteddfod. They must not approach and/or communicate with the Adjudicator during the Eisteddfod. The Committee reserves the right to disqualify any Competitor who, or whose parent, guardian or teacher, in its opinion, infringes the rule~PLEASE NOTE: as some of our Executive Committee are also parents of competitors, it may be necessary for them to speak with the adjudicator during or before the Eisteddfod on Eisteddfod business matters.
14 THE ADJUDICATORS DECISION WILL BE FINAL:~ The Adjudicators have the power to withhold or divide prizes according to merit.~When necessary, the Adjudicator may hear only a portion of the item. The ringing of the bell does not mean that the competitor lacks ability; it means that enough of the item has been performed for a decision to be made.~If necessary, Competitors may be given a second opportunity to complete their item. In this case they are to be given an Adjudication and a mark after the deduction of a penalty at the Adjudicators discretion. They should not be awarded a place unless the Adjudicator decides their performance is so outstanding that even after the penalty their marks are still high enough to beat the other competitors. Technical problems are excluded.~The Adjudicators decision will be FINAL except in cases of dispute regarding AGE or INCORRECT ENTRY, when the Committee’s decision will be final. Where the age of a Competitor is subject to protest, a birth certificate must be produced if requested.~If it appears that some manifest error has taken place, then the Adjudicators decision will be final.~This Association will not be held responsible for Adjudicators remarks and/or actions
15 PROTESTS:~ No protest or dispute matter will be permitted unless made in writing, and handed to the Secretary within half an hour of the cause arising, accompanied by a fee of $25.00(incl. GST). In all cases, the fee will be forfeited if the protest or dispute is considered frivolous. The decision of the Protest Committee will be final
16 AWARDS:~ First Prize -Trophy (unless otherwise stated)
Second Prize –Certificate and Medallion
Third Prize –Certificate and Medallion
Highly Commended – Certificate
Competitors MUST attain a sufficiently high standard before becoming eligible for first place.
THERE WILL BE NO TIES FOR FIRST PLACE.
In all sections First, Second and Third places will only be awarded, if the adjudicator deems the standard is sufficiently high.
17 AGGREGATE AWARDS:~ These will be determined on a points system, ~8 First, 5 Second, 3 Third, 1 Highly Commended. ~In the event of a tie, the number of first places will be considered, then second places etc. ~If still tied, then adjudication marks will be tallied. ~If it is still tied then the award will be shared and a replica trophy given to each party. ~Competitors will automatically be entered in aggregates if they enter the necessary sections.
18 ADJUDICATORS REPORT SHEETS:~ These will be available at the reports table after the completion of each section.~No duplicate copies of reports will be available.~Only Competitors and Teachers are allowed to pick up reports from the report table~Reports not collected by the end of the eisteddfod will be destroyed
19 PERPETUAL TROPHIES:~ Holders of School Perpetual Trophies (incl. Aggregate & Most Promising Awards) are reminded to please RETURN then no later than 8th February of current year to ~ SNAP Printing 185 Mulgrave Rd ~ All other Perpetual Trophies will be collected on the night after Presentation.
20 ENGRAVING:~ The Committee WILL NOT be responsible for the engraving of ANY trophy other than the Committees own Perpetual Trophies. The Committee WILL NOT be responsible for any trophy after presentation.
21 BACKSTAGE RULES AND CONDITIONS:~ A copy of the Backstage Rules & Conditions will be available backstage and will be strictly enforced. ~THE STAGE AREA WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR REHEARSAL DURING THE COURSE OF THE EISTEDDFOD UNLESS THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE IS SATISFIED THAT SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES JUSTIFY SUCH A REHEARSAL.
22 FOREIGN SUBSTANCES:~ No foreign substances may be used on the stage area. ~These include but are not limited to: flower petals real or fake, powder, flour, confetti, hairspray, hay, sand, water, paint, oil, cream, food stuffs, balloons.~No open flames. These include but are not limited to candles, sparklers, cigarettes or cigarette lighters. No foreign substances are to be left on the stage at the end of an item.
23 TIME LIMITS:~ WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED IN ALL SECTIONS.~Please ensure the performance is within the allotted time limit. Your co-operation is expected by the Programme Planning Committee.~Timing of random sections will occur during the Eisteddfod and a bell may be rung if overtime and the performance must cease. Performances are timed to include the Introduction and the exit.
24 SAFETY:~ Every care will be taken for the competitor’s safety, but the committee will not be responsible for any injury to any competitor, sustained during the eisteddfod. ~The committee is not responsible for any injury to any persons – authorized or unauthorized – sustained during the eisteddfod.
25 PHOTOGRAPHY:~ The use of photographic devices of any kind are a breach of the privacy laws and the committee regrets that the use of video recorders, cameras, mobile phones or any recording device in the auditorium and side stage area is prohibited (Official photographers/videographers excepted.)
26 THE BACK CURTAIN AND STAGE LIGHTING:~ This will remain set for the duration of the Eisteddfod. Under CDJE rules no changes will be made.

STAGE SIZE:~ CDJE Stage size is 4.8m deep x 9.8m wide.  ~  TAS Bishop Centre stage is 8m deep x 11m wide in total. (The curtain is 1m. Back from the front edge.)~     Edge Hill Performing Arts Complex stage is 7.0m x 12m in total. (The curtain is 1.5m. Back from the front edge.)
